performances

[~] belongs to a series of pieces, as III and momentum, which are focussed on animated 2D computer graphics, physical models and their interaction with sound.
[~] grew out of improvisations with visual and musical materials which I originally had developed for my piece III for the interaction between projection, bass clarinet and electronic sound. I complemented them by other models of generative graphics from momentum and some older material from Beschreibung and integrated those improvised ideas together with computer generated sound into this piece.
[~] is entirely generated in real-time and has to interpreted and performed like a composition for instruments but with OSC and MIDI controllers.

[~] was premiered at the International Workshop on Computer Music and Audio Technology (WOCMAT) 2012 in Hsinchu, Taiwan.

Other performances:
festival Música Viva 2014 in Lisbon, 1. Saarbrücker Tage der elektroakustischen und visuellen Musik 2014, within the concert series Nomades in May 2015 at the Goethe-Institut Alexandria, festival digitIZMir in October 2015 in Izmir.

realization notes

Sound and visuals are entirely generated and controlled with SuperCollider. The visual physical models mainly have been programmed using the redUniverse-Library by Fredrik Olofsson.
At the sound level various synthesis and processing algorithms have been used, but FM synthesis with feedback (thanks to the FM7 unit generator by Stefan Kersten) is dominating.
The sound is laid out for a circular multi-channel setup with a variable number of loudspeakers, the minimum requirement is a quadrophonic setup, the optimum is an octophonic circle.

The parameters of the physical models (like mass, friction, damping etc.) and the sound signal processing algorithms are controlled via a tablet running TouchOSC and a compact MIDI fader box.
